Jewish and Israeli Blog Round-Up: Heshvan Full-Moon Edition

Founded by Soccer Dad, Haveil Havalim is a carnival of Jewish blogs -- a weekly collection of Jewish & Israeli blog highlights, tidbits and points of interest collected from blogs all around the world. It's hosted by different bloggers each week, jointly coordinated through our Facebook Group. The term 'Haveil Havalim,' which means"Vanity of Vanities," is from Qoheleth, (Ecclesiastes) which was written by King Solomon. King Solomon built the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and later on got all bogged down in materialism and other 'excesses' and realized that it was nothing but 'hevel,' or in English,'vanity.' Submissions may be may through our on-line submission form on BlogCarnival.com, which requires you to log-in first.

So, during Shabbath dinner, which I often host at my Downtown Jerusalem apartment, I brought a hammer upstairs, along with something else hidden in my hand...

Esser Agaroth: So. Do you supposed that this (the hammer) is muqseh?

Daniel: (calmly) I would say that it is the epitome of muqseh.

Esser Agaroth: Except?

Daniel: Except for when it is used for a permissible Shabbat purpose.

...as which point I take the hidden pistachio nut out of my other hand, and attempt to crack it open with the hammer. The nut went flying, bounced on the floor, and then buried itself deep underneath my living room couch.

Albeit "permissible," I was apparently not to eat that pistachio nut that evening.

Why am I sharing this with you?
